Gawlein Tderk is quite off if you want to say Water Place in Khmer. Kanlaeng Tuk (កន្លែងទឹក) would sound more like it. As for the Khmer spelling for Wikipedia I propose something new. វិគិពីឌា sounds good, but I suggest changing it to វីគីផិដៀ ~Dara

Suasdey Squash, you are right, that vowel ឹ was originally an e/i sound in Sanskrit, so it's good to preserve sounds like that. :) Though most people will spell Tirk. Anyway it sounds the same to me. You know on the main page, there is ជំរាបសួរ (Jam Riab Suar). I think it should be Chomreap Sua.

• ជំ - Chom (Chor+srah Om)
• រាប - Reap (e.g. Siem Reap/សៀមរាប)
• សួរ - Sua (Final R's are silent, but most cannot notice it)

Just now, I installed the Khmer OS font on my XP computer. My main problems with the font: 1) vowels which are supposed to appear on both sides of the letter come out with the letter first, and then the parts of the vowel with a "placeholder" where the letter should be 2) Khmer has subscript things ("cherng", right?). This font renders them with a plus sign under the letter that should be a subscript. Just thought I'd let you know. -- Ungvichian 12:39 (GMT+7) 11/10/04

សួស្ដី Ungvichian, Your name sounds familiar. I think you are talking about the font rendering not working properly? You have to copy and paste the USP10.DLL to your System32 folder in Windows. But you have go under Safe-mode and it is difficult from what I hear. Another way you can do it the easy way which is to put the USP10.DLL file in every program's folder that you want to display Khmer correctly. Hope this helps. Dara

Similar problems to Burmese Wikipedia

I've been trying to figure out some infrastructure for the Burmese Wikipedia, to allow a friend who knows Burmese (but not computers) to edit it. I suspect we have similar problems when it comes to fonts, and display support of unicode.

I can't really help, I've written some ideas at my:Wikipedia:Font. If a new usp10.dll helps, that'll ease a lot of my problems. The problem is i don't have an up-to-date version on my system. (I found 1.420 on the net, but i think a later version is required.)

If anyone can help me get a later version of this DLL, it'd be much appreciated. email me: tburtenshaw at gmail.com (why yes, gmail does have a large amount of storage space).
